St Helen’s Catholic Primary School

Class 4

Welcome to class 4's page.

The teacher is Mrs Walker and she is supported by Mr Toth each morning. Mrs Guest and Miss Barker support one afternoon each per week.

P.P.A. cover is provided by Miss Heaton-Smith.

Our topics for the year are:

Pharaohs: Ancient Egypt; society and the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb.

Road Trip U.S.A.: We’ll start by ‘visiting’ the states where Native American tribes settled. We’ll use travel brochures and the internet to research New York and we'll explore Native American myths and write our own.

Traders and Raiders:We'll learn about the Saxons, the Roman shore forts and the Vikings.

Potions: We’ll learn all about mysterious potions. We’ll sort everyday items into solids, liquids and gases. Using our investigation skills we’ll explore capacity and the properties of liquids. We’ll also design fabulous bottles for magical potions. Becoming super scientists, we’ll investigate chemical reactions and states of matter.

Please look at the parent and carer topic guides below for further information.

Class 4 Reminders

Homework goes home each Wednesday and should be returned no later than Monday. Don't forget to put your book in the pigeon hole in class 4.

P.E. is on Thursdays and Fridays.

Don't forget your P.E. kit including a warm tracksuit and trainers/pumps - we will be outside as often as possible.

Spelling tests are on Fridays when you will also be given your new words and do the spelling test in your orange spelling book. Remember to bring your spelling book to school each Friday.

For reading we expect the children to do a minimum of 5-10 minutes reading each night. If you would like to carry out extra activities, here are some options you may wish to choose:

- discussing key characters and settings

- making a list of unfamiliar words and their meanings

- discussing the book with your child and the events that occur.
