We have had a very busy week in Class 1 this week! In Maths we have been using standard measures and looking at the properties of 2D and 3D shapes and in Literacy we have watched and written about a lovely animated story called 'Bubbles'. We have spent some time reflecting on our 'Holidays and Holydays' topic in RE and have been carrying out an investigation in Science. As well as this we have planted sunflower seeds and taken them home to look after over the holidays. Phew! We all need a well earned rest!
Enjoy the holidays Class 1 and see you in 2 weeks!
This week in maths we have been learning about fractions of shape and fractions of quantities. We have looked at finding 1/2 and 1/4 of shapes and progressed onto finding 1/2 and 1/4 of objects.
We have really enjoyed learning about the Royal Wedding of Harry and Meghan and have produced some lovely independent writing about the big day!
In RE we have been discussing the sharing of good news, like the disciples shared the news of the Holy Spirit. We made streamers and celebrated what is good news to us.
This week we have been on our class trip to the Tropical Butterfly House in Sheffield. We have had a fantastic day! Take a look at our pictures and ask your child what they have learnt about insects, arachnids and crustaceans...
In maths this week we have been doubling numbers and counting in 2s. We have solved problems like 'How many pairs of shoes would a spider need?'.
Our focus this week has been on reading and we have been reading anywhere and everywhere, reading anything that has words!
As we continue to prepare for the Year 1 phonics screening check please take a look at some of the games that are available to play on the below links.
We have been reading Whatever next! by Jill Murphy this week. The children have enjoyed writing about the story and we have been practising using exclamation marks. It has been tricky!
In maths we have revisited subtraction using objects and subtraction using a number line, the children had a turn at being the teacher and teaching the rest of the class how to do it.
On Tuesday we were visited by pirate Roy and we had a fantastic time in class 2 watching a very exciting puppet show.
As the weather has been lovely this week, we have spent most of our time outside enjoying learning in the sunshine! We have had the sandpit open for the first time this year and the children have loved playing in it.
We're hoping the weather will continue to be fine next week, fingers crossed!
This week we have furthered our knowledge of number bonds by learning number bonds to 20. We have used ladybirds and counters to explore how many ways we can make 20. We have continued to learn about number bonds to 10.
In literacy we have been looking at the story of Beegu, a little yellow alien who is miles away from home. We have enjoyed finding adjectives in the book and writing our own character descriptions, we even made our own Beegu models and paintings.
On Friday we went on a spring walk to look for signs of spring... hopefully next week we will have some sunshine!
