Autumn 1

Week 8 WC: 23/10/23

Our final week this half term has been as busy as ever! We have loved reading the story for this week- "Room on the Broom" by Julia Donaldson. We have been finding rhyming pairs and joining in with repeated phrases in the story.

In History we have been learning about Family Trees and Y1 have even made their own. We have enjoyed talking about our grandparents and the special memories we have of things that have happened in the past.

We have learned some new performance poetry from "The Poetry Basket" and we are really looking forward to our parent assembly in November. The children will be bringing home their sponsor forms this week for our World Nursery Rhyme Week event smiley

Week 7 WC 16.10.23

This week we have been acting out the story of The Little Red Hen and have listened to the story of The 3 Billy Goats Gruff on Story Basket- we are getting so good at listening and answering questions about stories.

In Science we have talked about the importance of recycling as it is Recycling Week.

In History we have been looking at toys from the past and how they compare to the toys that we have today.

We have been rehearsing rhymes and poems in preparation for our World Nursery Rhyme Week performance in November.

In phonics we have finished learning all of our Set 1 sounds and are working hard to remember them. We have played lots of Fred Talk games to get better at oral blending. Follow the links below to sing some of our favourite phonics songs.

Week 6- W/C 9.10.2023

Our story this week is The Little Red Hen so we made our own bread which was delicious! This story is all about how we should help our friends when they ask us for our help. We discussed the way it would make us feel if there was nobody to help us. We all know that we have friends at school who will help and be kind.

For World Mental Health Day we talked about how we can keep our minds healthy. We thought of lots of things that we can do that make us happy such as singing, dancing, yoga, going for walks and hugging the people that we love and care about. We decorated hearts to give to someone special to make them feel happyheart

In Science we are doing an experiment to see what affect different drinks have on our teeth. We used cleaned out egg shells and placed them in Cola, Cherryade, water, milk and orange energy drink.

Week 5- W/C 2.09.2023

In Science we have continues to learn about Forces. As this week is National Space week we found out about the force of gravity. We watched a film of a rocket being launched then experimented with cups and elastic bands to make our own Cup Rocket Launchers. We had lots of fun making, predicting, testing, and explaining.

In Maths we have been comparing numbers and subitising.

Our Book of the week was Jack and The Beanstalk and we loved using lots of story language, character voices and acting out the story.

Week 4- W/C 25.09.2023

This week we have enjoyed some beautiful Autumn weather in our outdoor provision.

In Science Y1 have been investigating Forces and how we can use are bodies to push and pull.

Our story this week is Ruby's Worry by Tom Percival. We know that if we have a worry it is better to talk about it with somebody to make the worry get smaller. Watch the story and talk about things you sometimes get worried about.

Week 3 - W/C 18.09.23

This week in Art we have been learning about shading. We drew patterns and then used a pencil to create different shades.

In Science we have been talking about the seasons and we went for a walk to see what signs we could see that summer is changing to Autumn.

Week 2 - W/C 11.09.23

This week we have been using lots of new maths provision and being independent when using resources and tidying them away.

In Art we have been learning how to draw carefully by looking at some pictures of our favourite characters and trying to copy them.

Week 1 - W/C 04.09.23

What a fantastic first week at school well done Class 1! All of the children have done so well settling into new routines and for our FS2 children they have coped with full time amazingly! (just a few needing a little nap)

They looked so smart in their uniforms and have been brilliant at remembering to bring their Book Bags every day. It's going tom be a super year!

One family, growing together in love and faith, flourishing in an ever-changing world. We love, we believe, we shine, we achieve.
