Autumn Term 2

Week 6

This week, children completed reading Me and My Fear in Guided Reading. Children applied VIPERS skills daily to further their comprehension. Children learnt about the girl finally making her first new friend and finding out their common interests such as colouring and painting.

 

In ICT this week, children have used greater and less than symbols when comparing data values on spreadsheets.

 

In Maths, children have continued to explore measure, exploring kilometres along with learning about area. Children enjoyed learning about area and even drew Christmas trees on squared paper and compared differing areas.

 

In Science this week, children explored how planets orbit the sun. Children watched videos for further visual aid and drew their very own pictorial explanations.

 

In Geography this week, children researched exciting physical features of Switzerland. Children considered rivers, mountains and introduced climate exploration and biomes.

Week 5

 

This week, children have explored Me and My Fear in Guided Reading. Children applied VIPERS skills daily to further their comprehension. Children learnt about the girl finally making her first new friend and how this made her feel.

 

In Design and Technology this week, children made their very own Truss bridges out of spaghetti and tape. Children explored durability and strength, as well as patience and resilience whilst working with challenging materials.

 

In Literacy this week, children have continued to research a Stone Age beast to create their very own fact file about their chosen animal. Children tried hard to summarise facts, apply their knowledge of paragraphs and include subheadings.

 

In Maths, children have continued to explore measure, specifically cm and mm this week. Children have learnt about the importance of accuracy and applied key skills of using a ruler.  

 

In Science this week, children completed a fact hunt about differing planets, exploring colour, gases, orbiting patterns and distances from the earth.

Week 4

 

This week, children have explored Me and My Fear in Guided Reading. Children applied VIPERS skills daily to further their comprehension. Children have observed the girls fear getting bigger and discussed how she might overcome her fears.

 

In Geography, children have created a fact file and compared key features of a European mountain.

 

In Literacy this week, children have researched a Stone Age beast to create their very own fact file about their chosen animal. Children tried hard to summarise facts.

 

In Maths, children have finished exploring column addition and subtraction for now, and have started looking at length. This week, children have looked at metres, centimetres and millimetres.

 

In Science this week, children have created a fact file – exploring at least 3 facts about varying planets in our solar system. This linked to Class 3’s trip to Magna this week, exploring Earth and Space.

Week 3

This week, children have explored Me and My Fear in Guided Reading. Children applied VIPERS skills daily to further their comprehension. Children have observed the girls fear getting bigger, exploring why and how.

 

In Geography, children have been exploring rivers and mountains across Europe. Children have created fact files and compared key features throughout Europe.

 

In Literacy this week, children have explored the key features of a non-chronological report. Children have read an example text about Stone Age Beasts, before completing one of their own next week. This looks well with our previous history topic.

 

In Maths, children have continued to master column addition and subtraction. Children have focused on borrowing and exchanging this week, whilst enjoying helpful learning videos and humorous ways to remember methods.

 

In Science this week, children have explored our new topic of Earth and Space. Children learnt about the solar system and the names and order of 8 planets.

Week 2

 

This week, children have explored Me and My Fear in Guided Reading. Children applied VIPERS skills daily to further their comprehension of the exciting, new text.

 

In Geography, children have explored human and physical features, along with researching rivers across Europe – comparing location and distance.

 

In Literacy this week, children have created a set of instructions inspired by How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth. Children have ensured that their instructions include time conjunctions, imperative verbs and adverbs, along with key feature such as numbers and bullet points.  

 

In Maths, children have focused adding three- and four-digit numbers with exchange. Children have worked really hard to ensure that they are exchanging across multiple columns if needed.

 

In Design and Technology this week, children have explored bridge structures and how some structure designs are stronger and better supported than others. Children used card to explore structure strength and how to improve and evaluate designs.

Week 1

 

Class 3 have had a fantastic week, they have settled back into our class routine wonderfully and enjoyed seeing friends after the holidays.

 

This week, children have explored How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth in Guided Reading. Children applied VIPERS skills daily to further their comprehension of the exciting, new text.

 

In Geography, children have explored continents, oceans, Europe and European flags. Children also used Google Earth to explore interesting landmarks such as Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower and the Colosseum.  

 

In Literacy this week, children have been reading How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth. Children have identified and explored new vocabulary within the book, along with using pictures to retell key parts of the story. Children have started to explore the key features of instructions, whilst learning about imperative verbs and time conjunctions.

 

In Maths, children have focused adding two and three-digit numbers. Children have explored adding 100s, 10s and 1s to a given number.
