Autumn Term 1

Week 8 - w/c 23rd October 2023

This week we have finalised our Science topic, Forces, by carrying out an experiment.

Firstly, we planned the experiment by thinking about what it is we wanted to find out, how we would do it, what equipment we would need and how we would ensure it was a fair test. We made a prediction before the experiment... we thought that the ball would roll the furthest distance along the smooth table and the shortest distance along the plush, fluffy rug.

We then worked in groups to carry out the experiment to try and answer the question: How does friction affect how far something travels?

Week 7 - w/c 16th October 2023

We have spent the last few weeks exploring place value, and this week we have made place value museums. We have found different ways to represent numbers as we have thought about the value of each digit. When we used the Numicon we had to find creative ways of making 10s, which tested our knowledge of number bonds!

Week 6 - w/c 9th October 2023

This week in PE we have been developing our throwing and catching skills. We gradually increased the difficulty of our tasks by introducing movement, partners and groups into the activities.

Week 5 - w/c 2nd October 2023

Today (Friday) we have been joined by Class 2 from St Helen's, Class 2 from Sacred Heart and Robert from Past Productions (aka Dr Bob) for a full day of learning about the plague in Eyam.

We have retold the history through drama, done some science about how the plague spread, sang and created some warning posters. We have had a fantastic day in which we have learnt so much information!

Week 4 - w/c 25th September 2023

On Tuesday we had a fantastic afternoon as we welcomed lots of our parents and carers to come into our classroom and take part in a craft activity with us. We continued with our art & design topic where we are exploring and developing a range of art & design skills. This week we focused on weaving. We made some beautiful woven pictures with animal cutouts on the top. We had so much fun with our grown ups and we are very excited to be able to welcome you into the classroom again soon! smiley

Week 3 - w/c 18th September 2023

It's been another very busy week of learning in Class 2. Our RE topic this half term is called "Creation and Covenant" and we have looked at the story of Noah and the ark from the Old Testament. This week we thought about how our actions can either harm or help, and we have begun making some rainbow prayers. Mrs Reynolds came from St Pius too, and read the story of when Jesus meets Zaccheus to some of us.

Week 2 - w/c 11th September 2023

This week we have started our new Art & Design topic which is focusing on a variety of Art & Design skills. We looked at a piece of art work by Nancy McCroskey which is called; ‘Suite in Black, White and Grey'. We used this to inspire our own work, focusing specifically on shading. We had to consider how much pressure we applied in order to create darker/lighter sections.

Week 1 - w/c 4th September 2023

We have had a lovely, busy first week back. The children who are new to Class 2 are quickly settling into new routines.

We have started our new history topic on The Plague, and started learning a song too. In maths the Year 2s have been representing 2-digit tens numbers and the Year 1s have been practising their careful counting skills.

All the children have designed a front cover for their diaries too. Well done for a great start Class 2!
