Autumn 2

Week 7

 

This week, children have finished reading The Diary of a Killer Cat. This week, children debated whether Tuffy was a well behaved cat for simply following the natural behaviour of a cat, or whether they agree with the family and think that Tuffy is not well behaved at all.

 

In Literacy this week, children have used their recently developed skills of sentence composure to complete a fact file about France. Children have researched physical and human landmarks in order to complete this.

 

In Maths, children have started to explore multiplication and division. Year 3 have focused on problem solving and Year 4 have explored multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100.

 

In RE, children have completed a ‘hot seat’ and pretended to be the wise men on their long journey searching for Jesus. Children then completed a diary entry discussing the thoughts and feelings of the wise men during this journey.

 

Children have very much enjoyed the festivities of this week, completing Christmas art, having our Christmas movie night, party food and of course our Christmas parties.

Week 6

 

This week, children have explored The Diary of a Killer Cat further. This week, Ellie’s dad nailed the cat flap shut after he had had enough of Tuffy’s unfortunate behaviour. Class 3 debated whether we agree or disagree with dad’s choice of actions.

 

In Literacy this week, children have continued to identified the subject, verb and ‘leftovers’ within single clause sentences. Children have also used coordinating conjunctions, specifically and, but and so to join clauses.

 

In Maths, children have started to explore multiplication and division. Year 3 children are exploring the 4- and 8-times tables and Year 4 children are exploring the 7- and 8-times tables.

 

In Geography this week, children have learnt how to identify human and physical features. Children have also researched and explored the human and physical features of France.

 

In ICT, children have learnt about the key parts of a laptop and where they are located. Class 3 have also learnt about the input and output of a laptop, along with exploring branch databases.

Week 5

 

This week, children have explored The Diary of a Killer Cat further. This week, Tuffy the cat brought in yet another unwanted guest home. This week, Dad tried to keep the neighbours happy by returning their poor rabbit.

 

In Literacy this week, children have continued to  identified the subject, verb and ‘leftovers’ within single clause sentences. Children have also used coordinating conjunctions to extend and develop sentences further.

 

In Maths, children have started to explore multiplication and division. Year 3 children are exploring the 3 and 4 times tables and Year 4 children are exploring the 6 and 9 times tables.

 

In Geography this week, children have explored ordinance survey symbols. This has then been applied within the local area to place our knowledge of symbols on a map of Goldthorpe.

Week 4

 

This week, children have explored The Diary of a Killer Cat further. This week, Tuffy the cat brought another unwanted guest home. This time, it was the neighbour’s rabbit! Children have explored VIPERS skills throughout the week the strengthen knowledge and understanding.

 

In Design and Technology this week, children have made their very own castle structure and evaluated their learning. Children have considered challenges faced along the way, material strength and areas of improvement.

 

In Literacy this week, children have identified the subject, verb and ‘leftovers’ within single clause sentences. Children have also improved their understanding of punctuation when addressing mistakes within sentences, ensuring that capital letters and full stops are in the correct place.  

 

In Maths, children have continued to practice column method for addition and subtraction, including exchange and regrouping. Children have also explored these skills within word problems.

 

In Science this week, children have learnt about the meaning of transparent, translucent and opaque. Children explored differing materials and what light shone through.

 

In Geography this week, children have explored the x and y axis when looking at coordinates.

Week 3

 

This week, children have explored The Diary of a Killer Cat further. This week, Tuffy the cat brought another unwanted guest home. His owner Ellie and her parents were very unhappy about this.

 

In Design and Technology this week, children have made their very own castle structure. Thank you to our wonderful parents for helping support children during our parent session on Monday afternoon.

 

In Literacy this week, children have explored regular and irregular verbs, adding ed to learn the last tense of regular verbs and when it is appropriate to double a consonant.

 

In Maths, children have continued to practice column method for addition and subtraction, including exchange and regrouping.

 

In Science this week, children have learnt about reflective surfaces. Children explored varying surfaces around the classroom to complete their very own investigation.

Week 2

 

Well done class 3 for your fantastic efforts during assessment week this week.

 

This week, children have explored a variation of non-fiction texts. Children have enjoyed reading information texts about animals, habitats and global warming.

 

In Design and Technology this week, children have nets to make 3D shapes in preparation for making our very own castles on Monday.

 

In Literacy this week, children have explored verbs, action words and their role within a sentence structure.

 

In Maths, children have continued to practice column method for addition and subtraction, including exchange and regrouping.

 

In Science this week, children have learnt about the meaning of light and dark. Children can explain the fact that dark is simply an absence of light.

Week 1

 

This week, children have started reading the book ‘The Diary of a Killer Cat’. Children have explored the writing style of diary entries, along with the mischievous antics of Tuffy the cat.  

 

In Design and Technology this week, children have explored the structure of a castle, including 3D shapes needed to make the structure.

 

In Literacy this week, children have explored common, proper, collective and partitive nouns within writing. Children have identified key features within writing, applied their knowledge and completed sorting games.

 

In Maths, children have continued to practice column method for addition and subtraction, including exchanging and borrowing. Children have also used rounding to support the skill of estimation, along with using inverse to check answers.

 

In Science this week, children have started to explore our new topic of light. Children have explored new vocabulary such as opaque, transparent and translucent.
