Spring Term 1

Week 6

This week we have been exploring 2D and 3D shape. It’s amazing how many shapes we can find all around us when we are at school  in the classroom, in the playground, at home or out and about.

Our class book this week has been “Journey” by Aaron Becker. It is a fascinating story with wonderful illustrations but no words. It makes you really think about what the story is about and make up your own words. We loved it.

We visited the library this week to pick out some new topic books and choose lots of new books for story time in Class 1. The children performed some of the stories and rhymes that we’ve been learning for the library staff who were very impressed.

For Science week we made bread and investigated how different ingredients change when mixed or when a particular ingredient is added. Yeast made bubble s in our mixture and made the dough grow. We discussed how heat changes things and we bake do the bread in a hot oven. It really was delicious.

On Friday afternoon it was our class assembly and all of the children performed brilliantly- well done class 1.

Week 5

In Literacy this week we have read one of my favourite books- "You Choose" by Nick Sharratt. We all thought about where we would like to travel to and how we would get there.

In Maths we have used a number line to subtract. Our new Number blocks have also been a great success.

We have started our new Come & See topic which is all about Special Meals. We talked about special meals that we have shared with our friends and families and decorated placemats.

Week 4

Miss Ellie is working hard with class 1 on Wednesdays perfecting their routine and the children are loving it!

In literacy we have been learning and writing our own versions of Eric Carle’s “Today is Monday”. We can also sing it!

In maths we have been adding and subtracting to 20 and have been using a new maths app called “Wipeout Wall” which helps challenge us to do speedy maths!

Week 3

This week in maths we have continued counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s and have used coins to help us.

In literacy we have continued with our bear hunt writing and completed our books which we are very proud of.

Our new role play area is a doctors which is so much fun. We have been taking turns to be a doctor, a receptionist or a patient. Lots of writing opportunities 😃

Week 2

In topic week we have been learning about the UK. We can point to the countries on a map and know that London is our capital city.

In literacy we have loved “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”. The children can retell the whole story with actions and are doing some fantastic writing.

Maths has been everywhere in class 1 this week. Counting, writing numbers, measuring and using mathematical language. Look at the photos and see our maths in action.

Week 1

Happy New Year! It has been so lovely seeing all the children this week and hearing about their wonderful Christmas news😃

We had our first dance session on Wednesday and did cheerleading. It was brilliant!

We have been looking at paintings by Vincent Van Gogh and trying to use watercolour and shades of a colour to create winter scenes.

In maths we are counting in 2a, 5s, and 10s.
