Class 2

Dear Visitors,

We'd like to warmly welcome you to our Class 2 Page from everyone in Class 2,

Miss Garratt (Class Teacher), Mrs Newell (HLTA and covers Class 2 on Wed PM) and Mrs Wood (Teaching Assistant)

On this page, you will find information and photographs about lots of different activities we will be doing this school year and, you will see us flourish as learners and individuals during our time at St Helen's School.

Our first topic is called...

Magnificent Monarchs

For information on our topic please look below this entry!

We have lots to learn and enjoy this term and we will look forward to updating you on our school work very soon!

Magnificent Monarchs

This project teaches the children about the English and British monarchy from AD 871 to the present day. Using timelines, information about royal palaces, portraits and other historical sources, they build up an understanding of the monarchs and then research six of the most significant sovereigns.

We will also be looking at a project called Portraits and Poses. Our Art lessons will focus on creating portraits.

Class 2 Reminders

Homework will be sent home every Wednesday. Due to the current situation, this year our homework will set on Purple Mash and will not be given out in a book.

(We are going to practise logging in and using Purple Mash in school. The children's logins are in their reading journals!)

Spellings will be stuck into the children’s spelling books by themselves and given in their RWI group on Friday.  The spelling check will be the following Friday.

Reading in Class 2

In Class 2, we work as a whole class in our guided reading sessions to solve VIPERS (vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval, and sequencing questions) on our class text.

Reading books will be changed every week. Please make sure you say if your child is not enjoying their book and they would like to choose another for the week. Books will then be set aside for 72 hours before returning to the shelves for others to choose.

All of the children in class are assessed and we match our reading books with their reading ability. If we feel they have progressed before our next assessment we will move them on to continue their progress.

Please make sure you read daily at home!

If you read three times a week and it is written in your reading journal, you will get 10 credits on our reward chart.

Class 2 Reminder - PE

PE sessions will be on Monday PM and

Friday AM
