Week 2

To encourage reading we have created a new reading area in Class 3 for our new topic Predator which will start next week. A HUGE thank you to Mr Simms and Miss Bogic for giving up their time to help create such a wonderful reading jungle for our children.

In Literacy we have been exploring instructional texts. We had fun looking through recipe books to identify the different features and to look at the layouts. We have been learning about adverbs and imperative verbs and how these are used to improve commands.

As part of anti-bullying week we used this information to write a friendship soup recipe to help us become a good friend. We thought about all the attributes that make a good friend and used these as ingredients.

As part of our promises topic the children wrote beautiful prayers for a baptism. We discussed the promises that are made during this special time.

Our stunning Gods and Mortals display is now finished in class celebrating the children's hard work this term.

In Spanish we made posters to display our knowledge of the colours.

We have continued to practice our times tables. Please see the link below for some of the songs we use.

Week 1

Welcome back Class 3!

I hope that you have all had a lovely, well deserved break!

It has been nice to see so many children return to school with a positive mindset settling straight back in to their learning and trying their best.

This week we were scientists and completed our science experiment 'Why did Icarus fall from the sky?' we found out that the myth was incorrect and that Icarus' wings actually tuned brittle in the cold air instead of melting near the hot sun like the story suggested. The children thoroughly enjoyed their science afternoon.

In Literacy we explored diary writing and the features they include. We pretended to be Icarus and wrote a diary entry for his day in the story. Some of  us extended this and pretended to be a Greek character from the myths we had read and wrote a diary entry from them. We now know that a diary has to have chatty language, thoughts and feelings in them. We know how to use our senses to set the scene too and add more interesting detail.

In Maths we have continued to add and subtract numbers mentally. We are now starting to feel more confident with this. Lots of us have been practicing our times tables on Timestable Rockstars or You Tube. We are now becoming more confident but still need to practice more at home.

Remember our letters to parents are put on our website so if you lose a letter please check under the parents' section of your child's school and you should find a copy there.
