Spring 1

Week 1

In Class 4 we are beginning the New Year with a recap of our Grammar and understanding of the following:-

  • Nouns
  • Verbs
  • Adjectives
  • Adverbs
  • Pronoun
  • Conjunctions
  • Prepositions
  • Interjections

The aim is to reinforce these skills in preparation for our new topic 'The Blue Abyss', which we hope to begin next week.  This topic will start with  Personification Poetry - in particularly looking at the poem 'The Sea' by James Reeves.

Finally, we hope to visit 'The Deep' aquarium in the week leading up to half term.

Week 2

This week, whilst half the class trained to be playground coaches with Mr Johnson, The remaining pupils grew some crystals to be used in our ocean garden.

Week 3

This week we have made an ocean in a bottle to identify the different layers found in the ocean.  We are also in the process of completing a range of art activities with an 'under the sea' theme.

Week 4

This week Class 4 have enjoyed learning more about the Ocean's - in particularly the Great Barrier Reef and sea life that is found there, as well as how the reef was formed, grows and develops.  This information will be used to create some persuasive letters, that will try and persuade others to save the oceans by reducing littering.

Class 4 also sent letters out this week to invite children to take part in a visit to The Deep in Hull which aims to support our Blue Abyss project.

Week 5

This week Class 4 have enjoyed learning more about 'Passover' and 'Sedar plates' in which they had the opportunity to try all the foods that would normally be found on them; including parsley, potato with salt water, lettuce, egg and unleavened bread.

The children really enjoyed this activity and thought of some fabulous adjectives to describe the foods they tried.  Afterwards Class 4 created their own plates that included foods to describe themselves.

Week 6

This week has seen the children reinforcing their PEE'ing and persuasive technique skills.  The children have been using the acronym PEE to make a point, provide evidence for it and then explain it in order to develop their writing skills.  They have used this skill when writing persuasive letters to a variety of people as well as  by creating posters to persuade people to travel to the Great Barrier Reef, and finally a persuasive letter between Moses and Rameses.

Week 7

After all their hard work during a tough week of assessments, Class 4 ended the week with a pyjama party to celebrate all they have achieved.  I'm incredibly proud of each and every child in class.  Well done Class 4.
