Autumn Term 1

The Term Ahead - Autumn 2023

Our Class Novel

Week 7

Literacy - We have been exploring the language features that make a setting description come alive for the reader. Before we write about our own magical settings, we have been learning how we can use figurative language such as metaphors and similes.

Blue Peter Book Badge - We have loved reading our class novel 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' and we are really sad that we have nearly reached the end of the book. However, we have decided that we have definitely earnt a Blue Peter Book Badge! We are going to share our love for the book and complete our application at school. Our parents/carers can then send our applications to the address found by clicking on the link below.

Week 6

RE - Saint John Henry Newman wrote some famous lines about everyone having a special task in life, it may seem to be ordinary and simple, but if it is done in love for God and our neighbour, it is a definite task or mission which is special to each person. This week, we have been learning more about what this could mean to us in our lives and we used a Word Art programme to record some key words from our own life missions.

Harry Potter Book Day! We had a great time joining the Bloomsbury Publishing Company for their Harry Potter Book Day. We joined Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) for a virtual creative writing lesson and she taught us how to effectively use language features such as personification and alliteration when describing a magical setting. We also completed a series of magical mathematical challenges and we designed and created shields for our Quidditch teams. We had a great day!

World Mental Health Day - We learnt that positive connections with others are very important in order to maintain good mental health and wellbeing. We listened to some relaxing guitar music whilst we thought about the people (and pets!) that we enjoy connecting with.

Week 5

National Poetry Day - We celebrated National Poetry Day this week by rehearsing and performing the poems that we had written. We also learnt to recite a poem in Spanish!

Spanish - This week we listened to a story in Spanish called 'La excursion del Senor Romero'. We then turned the story into a playscript and acted it out using masks and props.

Week 4

In History this week, we have been learning about life in an Anglo-Saxon village. We have started to design our own Anglo-Saxon Villages. When our designs are finished, we will select an appropriate name for our village based upon what we have learnt about Anglo-Saxon place names.

Spelling

We have been trying some new and fun ways to learn our spellings this week. We have created spelling rainbows, spelling pyramids - and we have enjoyed using a new game to practice spelling those tricky common exception words. Click on the link below to keep practicing:

Week 3

Our Science Investigation - We really enjoyed investigating the effects of friction on different surfaces.

In PE this week, we worked hard to learn how to speed up our reaction times. Being able to react quickly is a fitness skill which comes in handy in lots of different sports.

Week 2

We were treated to a rendition of 'Hedwig's Theme' (Harry Potter Theme Tune) on the flute! The children have the opportunity to have woodwind lessons this year. Please see the office staff for more details.

Our lovely new Class Novel has arrived! Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Week 1

What a lovely first week - even the sunshine decided to hang around for a little bit longer!

We've made a magical start in Literacy, our writing units this half-term will be based around a book about a very famous young wizard and we have started to learn about the features of poems before we create our own 'Magical Plant' Poetry.

One family, growing together in love and faith, flourishing in a diverse and ever-changing world. We love, we believe, we shine, we achieve.
