Spring Term 1

Week 5

 

This week, children have explored a diary entry about The Gunpowder plot. Children learnt about who Guy Fawkes was and his story around the houses of parliament.

 

In Art, children have continued learning about tone and shade.

 

In Literacy this week, children have started to plan there diary entry about the daily life of a Roman soldier. After half term children will start to write there diary entry. 

 

In Maths, year 3 and year 4 children have explored adding and subtracting money.

 

In Science this week, children have labelled bones in the human body. Children have then measured their femur bones to investigate if the length of a femur bone affects the distance that a child can jump.  

 

In PE this week, children have continued exploring point and patch balances during gymnastics. Children have also learnt varying shapes to stretch and warm up our bodies, along with adding movement to previously learnt balances to establish differing methods of travel at heights.

 

In History, children have researched Roman Gods and Goddesses to develop further understanding of the religions and belief systems present during this time.

Week 4

 

This week, in reading class 3 have explored about the Roman Occupiers. At the start of the week we identified new vocabulary and then worked on fluency. 

 

In Art, children continued to focus on drawing geometrical shapes and how this can be used when drawing daily objects.  

 

In Literacy this week, children have explored the key features of a diary entry. Children have also explored subordinating conjunctions.   

 

In Maths, year 3 and year 4 have started to focus on money. Year 3 have focused on pounds and pence. Year 4 have focused on pounds, tenths and hundredths.

 

In Science this week, children have identified food labels and continued to explore the nutritional values of food.

 

In PE this week, children have continued exploring point and patch balances during gymnastics. Children have also learnt varying shapes to stretch and warm up our bodies, along with adding movement to previously learnt balances to establish differing methods of travel at heights.

 

In History, children have researched roman archaeological sites in the United Kingdom and found interesting facts about the roman ruins.

Week 3 

 

In Art, children have identified and drew geometrical shapes from looking at pieces of art and daily objects.

 

In Reading this week, children have explored a non chronological report about Europe. At the start of the week children explored key vocabulary and worked on their fluency. By the end of the week children started to answer questions orally and in writing. 

 

In Maths, children have continued to explore division – particularly using the short division method.

 

In Science this week, children have investigated differing types of skeletons. We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of varying skeleton types, along with categorising animals.

 

In PE this week, children have continued exploring point and patch balances during gymnastics. Children have also learnt varying shapes to stretch and warm up our bodies, along with adding movement to previously learnt balances to establish differing methods of travel.

Week 2

 

 

This week, children have explored a non chronological report about vikings. The children at the start of the week focused on fluency and by the end of the week children began to answer comprehension questions. 

 

In Literacy this week, children have started to write a paragraph about their own hobbies and ensured each sentence is correctly punctuated and makes sense. 

 

In Maths, children have continued to explore multiplication and division. Year 3 children have explored multiplying a 2-digit by a 1-digit number. Year 4 children have applied their knowledge and understanding to solve problems and using bus stop method for division.

 

In Science this week, children have investigated food labels. Children have explored differing colours of labels and what this means – i.e red meaning that a food was high of a specific food group.

 

In PE this week, children have enjoyed exploring point and patch balances during gymnastics. Children have also learnt varying shapes to stretch and warm up our bodies, along with adding movement to previously learnt balances to establish differing methods of travel.

Gymnastics

Week 1

 

This week, children have explored a variation of non-fiction texts about the human body. Children have enjoyed reading information texts about the human body and found it very interesting. 

 

In Literacy this week, children have explored non-chronological reports. Children have identified the key features of a text.

 

In Maths, children have continued to explore multiplication and division. Year 3 children have worked with arrays and making a number 10 times bigger. Year 4 children have applied their knowledge and understanding to solve problems.

 

In Science this week, children have learnt about animals including humans. Children have explored differing food groups and how such nutrients are important for the body.

 

In PE this week, children have enjoyed exploring gymnastics and created interesting point and patch balances.
