Welcome to Class 3
Miss Read and Mr Borg are the class teachers and they will be supported by Mrs Wood, Miss Guttridge and Miss Wilkinson, P.P.A cover is provided by Mrs Newell or Mrs Guest.
We hope you enjoy looking through our class page and seeing all of the exciting things that we do. Remember to keep checking for the latest instalment of class 3's learning journey!
Our first topic this year will be all about History. The main focus will be looking at technology and culture in the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. Our Enquiry question will be ‘How has the identity of British people and Britain changed over time?’
Our second topic will have a geography focus and the class will explore the significant physical features of Europe with a particular location focus on Switzerland. Children will learn about climate zones, biomes, rivers and mountains.
In the Spring term we will study the rise of the Roman Empire up to AD 42 and the power of its army, looking particularly at technology and culture.
General Things
PE days are on Monday and Friday. Please ensure that the children have the correct kit on these days.
Music lessons will be on Wednesday afternoon with Mr Kelly and children will need to bring their Ukulele into school on that day. Click on the link below to see the music children will be learning to play this year. https://www.barnsleymusichub.com/ukulele
Spellings will be given for the children to learn on Thursday and the spelling check will be on the following Wednesday.
We will also have a times table test once a week on Times Tables Rockstars.
Homework will be set on Wednesday and should be completed during the week and handed in on the following Monday.
For reading we expect the children to do a minimum of 5-15 minutes reading each night. If you would like to carry out extra activities, here are some options you may wish to choose:
- discussing key characters and settings
- making a list of unfamiliar words and their meanings
- discussing the book with your child and the events that occur
