Spring 2

Easter celebrations

During Holy Week we listened the story of Easter and found out all about the sacrifice Jesus made for us all.  We retold the story in our own way.  We celebrated by creating Easter cards to share with our loved ones.

On Thursday we celebrated Easter by going on an egg hunt around the classroom. We found foam eggs in lots of places and afterwards we decorated them.  We found them in our Easter baskets at the end of the day along with a tasty treat.  We hope you all have a wonderful Easter and we look forward to seeing you after the break when some new friends will be joining us.

Week 6

This week our core story has been The Gingerbread Man. We have been very busy practising out scissor skills by cutting out our own gingerbread man and using split pins to make him move and run away. On Wednesday we baked our own Gingerbread men following a recipe.  We were very shocked when one of the Gingerbread Men ran out of our oven. We searched everywhere but we couldn’t find him.  Luckily, on Friday we found our runaway Gingerbread man along with two of his friends.  We decided to investigate what would have happened to the Gingerbread Man if he tried to cross the river.  We put one in milk and one in water.  The one in water melted the quickest!

Our runaway Gingerbread Man has been spotted in Nursery!

Week 4

Our core book this week has been The Three Billy Goats Gruff.  We retold the story using actions. We went outside and acted out the story.  We enjoyed trip trapping over the bridge.

Week 3

Our core story this week has been Jack and the Beanstalk.  We really enjoyed the story but we didn’t like the giant very much because he was so mean. We liked the end of the story when Jack cut the beanstalk down.  We used the theatre stage and the small world area to retell the story using the repeated refrains.

This week we went on a walk to look for signs of Spring.  We saw new flowers like daffodils and blue bells growing around school. We also found buds on some of the bushes.  Afterwards we planted our own beans and have been watching them carefully to see them grow.

In maths we have used Jack’s beanstalks to learn all about height.  We learnt to use the words tall, short, taller than and shorter than to compare the length of the beanstalks.  We investigated which child was the tallest and the shortest in Nursery.  Outside we found tall and short objects.

Week 2

This week our core story is Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We really enjoyed the story and agreed that Golidlocks was very cheeky eating all of Baby Bear's porridge.  Today we investigated what makes porridge yummy by trying to add lots of different tasty things to it.  Firstly we tried the porridge on its own.  Some of us didn't like it very much.  Next we added so sweet strawberries and raspberries to the porridge.  Then we made our porridge turn pink by adding some jam.  It was very tasty and most of us liked it.  After that we tried porridge and golden syrup which was another big favourite.  Finally we added some chocolate spread to our porridge and it tasted delicious!  We had lots of fun completing this experiment and some children that didn't like the taste of porridge on its own said they would have it with fruit, syrup or chocolate spread.  Which ingredient do you like to add to your porridge?

What makes porridge yummy?

Today we really enjoyed our second dance session with Ellie.  We remembered all the things we learnt last week and we started to learn a sequence of movements and performed them together.  We can’t wait until next week.

Where the wild things are

As part of celebrating World Book Day we have enjoyed working with Reece to perform a theatrical version of the famous story "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. It was lots of fun. Take a look at our final performance. Would you like to visit the wild things?

Week 1

It has been wonderful welcoming everyone back after half term. We have had a very exciting and busy week celebrating something special everyday.

our core story this week is “The Three Little Pigs”. We thought the wolf was very bad and we were all happy when he got his bottom hurt in the hot boiling water. We used our stage area to act out the story and made houses for the three pigs.

On Tuesday we celebrated Shrove Tuesday by making our own tasty pancakes and adding our favourite toppings.  What did you add to your pancakes?

On Wednesday we celebrated Ash Wednesday by learning all about Lent.  We learnt how Lent lasts for 40 days and is the count down to Easter.  We each made a promise for Lent.  Some of us decided we would give up some of our toys whilst some of us wanting to emote kind or helpful.

Our first dance session with Ellie Street.

We loved celebrate we loved celebrating World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite characters.

We loved our new stage area and used it to perform our favourite song and rhymes. We are all great little performers 😁
