Week 7

WOW! What a week! Christmas dinner, Christmas Party, Christmas PE, Christmas Jumper Day, Christmas singing and lots more glittery Christmas fun! The children are all most definitely excited for Christmas!

Have a wonderful time with your families and we will see you all in 2022!xxx

Week 6

We made our Christingles this week and talked about what each part represents. We sang hymns and thought about how we are preparing for Christmas.

We have started to learn some poems, songs and rhymes from "The Christmas Poetry Basket".

Week 5

This week we have started the re-telling of The First Christmas. We have trimmed up our classroom and have been thinking again about this time of Advent. What things do you most enjoy about this time of year when we are getting ready for Christmas? We are all looking forward to our Christmas Movie Night this week!

In Science we have been learning about ‘Friction’ and how it changes the way things can move.

In topic we have been learning about the very first moon landing. Do you know who was the first man to walk on the moon? Do you know what year it is? We do!

Week4

This week we have been learning more about space and the solar system. We know lots of facts about planets. Do you know how many planets there are? Do you know the order in their distance from the sun? Do you know about different moons? We do!

Our story this week is Beegu. This is a story all about a little alien who ends up on earth- all alone ☹ We have talked about how she must have felt and how many different words we could think of to describe this. We all made a playdough Beegu, wrote speech bubbles for her and took photos on iPads to tell the story. We love Beegu 😊

We have started thinking about Advent and how it is a time to start preparing for Christmas. We know about the candles on an Advent wreath and what each one represents.

Week 3

On Monday  it was Odd Socks Day. We has a very "Odd" day. In phonics we found the one out when rhyming. In maths we looked at odd and even numbers. In the afternoon we went on a sock hunt and designed our own odd socks. We talked about how we are all different and it is ok to be different. Nobody should ever be bullied for being different. We discussed this year's Anti-Bullying theme which is "One Kind Word". We are making sure that we use kind words every day. Follow the link below for Andy and The Odd Socks singing "One Kind Word".

This week our book of the week has been "Whatever Next" by Jill Murphy. Baby Bear finds a rocket and travels up into space! He meets a friendly owl along the way and even has a picnic in the moon! We thought about what things we would with us in our rocket if we could go to the moon. Some of my favorite ideas were cake, sausage rolls and a Christmas tree! What 10 things would you take?

Week 2

This week our story has been "How to Catch a Star" by Oliver Jeffers. We have been designing, drawing and making our own "Star catchers" and thinking of how we could possibly reach the stars. Our topic "Flight and Space" led us to thinking about what the words 'flight' and 'space' actually mean to us and what do we already know? We have asked ourselves the question- 'How did we learn to fly?' We have found out about some of the funny ways people long ago tried to fly! We know about the first ever Hot Air Balloon flight and in Science we are looking at how things move. We know that a Force can be a 'push' or a 'pull'. What can you think of that we use these forces for?

We went to church for our 'Welcome Mass'. We listened to Father Declan and sang hymns. It was the first time we have ever been to church in Class 1 and hope to be able to go again very soon.

Week 1

Welcome back to a new half term. This week has been packed with fun and learning! We have found out about Guy Fawkes and The Gunpowder Plot, Diwali and have a new favourite story- "Owl Babies" by Martin Waddell. We have been labeling, ordering, sentence-writing and acting out the story. Have you heard the story? Follow the link below to listen to it.
