Autumn 1

Kingswood
Class 5 had such an amazing time at Kingswood even though it was raining and freezing cold. They have been able to take part in a lot of different activities including braving heights in the leap of faith, working together to problem solve and also getting very mucky and dirty on the nightline. I am very jealous that I didn't get to go and enjoy this time with them.

Week 4
In Literacy this week Class 5 have been looking at poetry. To help us with our ideas we looked at a technique called instant write. This helps us quickly think of ideas and allows us time to go back and edit and improve our sentences to make them better. Here we are attempting a physical instant write by trying to represent some tricky words from the poem the Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. Can you tell which of our groups is a window, which is a robber, which is a group of soldiers and which group is a rapier?
In Music we have again been looking at our chosen style of music again. We have made a better attempt at finding the real pulse of the song and we used this to find the pulse in We will rock you also. Here we are keeping time with the pulse of the song in different ways as well as our first attempts at learning the lyrics.

Week 3

Class 5 this week have been looking at the layout and layering of a song. Our song for this block of learning is Living on a prayer by Bon Jovi.

We looked at the structure of the song as well as what instruments we can hear. Here are videos of us trying to find the pulse/beat of the song with our eyes closed.

Week 2
This week in literacy, Class 5 have been working on building a fantasy narrative to create an atmosphere. We have broken down each section of the narrative and looked at how to write the perfect introduction, set up to the problem and ending. On Wednesday we read Kidnapped by Pie Corbett and created a success criteria for a perfect ending and then planned and acted out how we thought the story should end.
Week 1
Class 5 have been working hard this week to uncover the land of Alchemy Island in our topic. This week in Geography we have looked at contour lines and how they show the height of the mountains on Alchemy Island. We also created sound scenes which represented the different regions. Can you guess whether we are in Junglewest, Stormhand, Winterbourne or Summerwyn?
