Autumn Term 1

Week 8:

This week has been science week in school and since our topic has been all about evolution we thought we would conduct an experiment into adaptation and evolution by looking at the different types of beaks bird have and which might be most effective for different types of food as well as which was most effective overall.

We invited parents along to take part in our experiment and recorded our results before writing our experiment up.

Week 7:

What a brilliant day we have had today at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, we have investigated different animals, discussed their habitats and learn't all about evolution and variation in animals. Next week we will be taking this forward to look at the animals we saw and look at specific adaptations they have developed to survive over time.

Week 6:

This week in our topic we have carried out nature investigations as Darwin enjoyed doing. We then talked about how he might present his data in the modern age rather than using notebooks and sketches. We decided we thought he would use cameras, videos and blog posts to keep track of his information. We created fake blog posts using Publisher to display our photos and then record relevant information about them. Some of us even tried to use the scientific names for the things we had found.

Week 5:

This week we have been looking at Darwin's Great Journey ion more depth. We have explored some of the journals that Darwin kept of his travels and wrote our own interpretation of these and created sketches of the things he saw.

We have also started to look at the Galapagos Islands and research some of the different information about the Islands to create information boards.
Finally we have been looking at all of the achievements of one of our student who is a very talented Kickboxer. Keep it up!

Week 4:

This week in RE we have been examining the story of the prodigal son. We talked about what happened in the story and began to talk about the meaning behind the events of the story, why the older son was upset and why the father chose to forgive. We then created our own story board representations of the story.

Week 3:

This week we have been working on attacking and defending games with Mr Johnson in PE. We have played games of Hand Ball and learn't to use a single handed overhead pass in the game.

We have also been working on teaching our buddies in Class 1 how to code on the Ipads using Kodeable - Hour of Code to show them how they could program a simple avatar to follow their instructions around a maze.

Week 2:

This week we have looked at Darwin's Great Journey. We used Extracts from his journals which we first placed in chronological order (Darwin wrote his journals by location) and then mapped out the locations of the places he visited using longitude and latitude coordinates and recorded the dates of each stop. We will be using this to explore some of these details in more detail and look at some of his discoveries.

Week 1:

We have had a fantastic start to our new year in Class 5! We have begun our new topic and learnt some information about Darwin's journey on the HMS Beagle. We have also started our Time Table Rock Stars and we are rapidly improving our recall of multiplication facts.

One family, growing together in love and faith, flourishing in a diverse and ever-changing world. We love, we believe, we shine, we achieve.
