Our latest topic is A Child's War. In this topic we will be learning all about World War 2, The Blitz and the evacuation of children from major cities to the county side. Check back often for updates on our latest topic.
This week we have started a design project creating a diorama of the trenches used in World War 1 & 2. We Started by crafting the edges of the trenches using wood and then filled these gaps before covering them with Modrock. This project is ongoing and we can't wait to get back to school and finish it.
This week we have been preparing for Easter and as part of our preparations have made beautiful Easter cards with Mrs. Weston.
This week we have been creating mood boards to show our research on the trenches used in both World War 1 & 2. This will help us to design our models of the trenches next week.
This week we have been examining the devastation caused across the country by the Blitz. We looked at various images and then tried to recreate them using just charcoal to create the effects of light and dark. Here are some examples.
As a start to our topic we have been looking at designing Anderson Shelters and decided to create a large shelter in our reading area. After a great deal of hard work from everyone (especially Mr Holcroft & Mr Bamforth) we have a finished air raid shelter for our readers.
A brilliant day today at Eden Camp and a fantastic way to kick off our new topic all about World War 2. The children had loads of insightful questions and found out lots of information. We even had a lovely sing song while we were there.
War Time Sing Song
Today we have had our parents in for Parents Afternoon. They have been helping us to make Identity Dolls. We stitched the dolls up and then created features and accessories that we felt reflected us.
