Summer 1

Week 7

This week, we finished of our stories inspired by the video 'Alma'. We edited them, did some proof-reading and then wrote up our final drafts.

In computing, we were focusing on how RFID technology can be used in devices like wristbands. We looked at some real world examples, like wristbands at theme parks, and how the data from them gets used. We learnt all about how live data on ride wait times can be gained from these devices, and how helpful this then becomes for guests!

We used Excel to create charts to show wait times for rides.

Week 6

This week was SATs week and Class 5 showed incredible resilience and determination! We are all super proud of them.

Most importantly though, SATs week meant SATs breakfast club! Yum!

Week 5

This week, we've been focusing a lot on positivity and talking about our mental health. We've used the book 'The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse' to inspire us to create some artwork. We then also thought about the messages that are shared within the book and looked at other similar ones. Using these, we created our own little books of positivity which are filled with positive and uplifting quotes!

Week 4

This week in maths, we've been recapping our knowledge of fractions. We've also focused on being able to apply our arithmetic knowledge to worded problems, breaking them down into small steps so that solving them becomes much easier!

In RE, we learnt about the Islamic religion, focusing on the Five Pillars of Islam. We learnt about Zakat - one of the pillars - which is linked to giving some of your wealth to others. Muslims do this to help make people more equal, and to purify their souls by not being greedy. We were inspired by this belief and decided to give some of what we had by using our classroom resources to make things for the other classes in school. We also gave each class something from our indoor play games cupboard.

Week 3

This week, we finished writing our balanced arguments, which have been all about whether or not zoos should exist. We have spent time during this writing unit researching the pros and cons of zoos, inspired by our own trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. We have found out about zoos that treat animals well, and what can happen to animals if they are in zoos where they are not looked after correctly.

In history, we learnt all about the Maya civilisation's writing and number systems. We used PowerPoint to create slides to show what we learnt!

Week 2

This week, we have had an assessment week. However, in between all of that, we've been up to all sorts of fun things!

In our science topic, we've been learning all about evolution. This week, we focused on how plants adapt to live within their environments. We looked at water lilies and learnt all about their incredibly long stems that grow under the water to allow their large leaves to float on the surface. We also looked at the harsh environment of the Sahara desert and discovered why it is that cacti can survive there so well!

Week 1

Time is flying and another term has begun! We started our new history topic this week, learning all about the ancient Maya civilisation. We also started looking at our science topic which is all about evolution. Did you know that camels have long eyelashes to protect their eyes from getting damaged or scratched by grains of sand in the air?

In computing, we focused on learning about our digital footprints and how they can affect our online reputations. Lastly, we also started our new maths unit which is all about measures. This includes being able to estimate the weight, capacity and length of items, as well as being able to convert between different units of measurement.
