Summer 1

Week 5

The week we have had our parent session in nursery. It was a great success and everyone had a fantastic time! We made characters from the story 'The Rainbowfish' which we decorated with our adults. We made splat monsters using blobs of paint and straws to blow the paint around. Adults also had the opportunity to look through nursery's collective worship book. We had an activity outside where large cardboard boards had quote or elements of our collective worship focus. Children took their adults around each board and could talk to them about it. Then they painted each other's hands on the boards.

We we have had some wonderful feedback about our parent session!

"It's a very good session (my child) loved every bit of it!"

"I find it good way to get to know other children and parents."

"Absolutely fantastic! Really enjoyed it!"

"I really appreciate these sessions, it's lovely to see what my child gets up to. My child is very happy in nursery".

Week 4

This week we have been reading 'The Rainbow Fish' and watching the short film. The story focuses on being kind and this was our focus in our collective worship this week. We were asked 'who is kind to us?'. We passed the Thinking Pebble round the circle and we each had the opportunity to tell the rest of the class who is kind to us. We then put a pebble in the bowl of water and said thank you to God for the kind people in our lives.

Week 3

This week we have been having a go at making our own repeating patterns. We have been using different objects, shapes and colours to create our own repeating patterns. We have also been using paint to follow repeating patterns on. We have been looking for repeating patterns in our environment, checking our socks for repeating patterns and noticing them on materials.

Week Two

This week we have been watching the Blue Tits nesting in the bird box. We have a camera inside the bird box and we could see the eggs the bird had laid before the bank holiday weekend. When we came back on Tuesday this weeknwe discovered they had hatched! There were lots of chicks with yellow beaks. We could watch Mummy bird and Daddy bird feeding the chicks. It has been very exciting. We will continue to watch the chicks grow!

Week 1 - Painting Day!

This week we have started our new topic "How Many Colours in a Rainbow?". We had a painting day full of different painting activities. We were colour mixing, exploring powder paints and lots of different ways of painting; small brushes, big brushes, potatoes, squeeze tubes, paint rollers and of course our hands!

Before the Easter holidays the children had also said that they wanted a big Peppa Pig house for our classroom. So this week we have painted a box yellow and red and we now have a Peppa Pig role play area in our classroom created by the children!

We have really enjoyed this introduction to our new topic and we are excited to explore colour this term.
