Spring 2

Week 6

 

 

Class 3 have completed some brilliant work on the last week of term!

 

In Guided Reading this week, we used a video stimulus to support our learning, focusing on a video called ‘Save Earth’. We retrieved key information from the text and pictures to develop our retrieval and inference skills.

 

In Literacy this week, we have finished writing our formal letters to Boris Johnson, inspired by our book focus The Street Beneath My Feet. The children chose a current environmental issue to research and inform Mr Johnson of their concerns.

 

 In Maths, we have focused on fractions and decimals this week. We have developed our understanding of hundredths and have worked very hard when converting fractions to decimals. We have also completed a variation of statistics work, using pictograms and bar charts.

 

In RE this week, Class 3 have recreated the Last Supper and completed a storyboard to share their understanding. We have also worked very hard to design and make our very own Easter cards. Well done!

 

In PSHE, the children have continued to research the value of trees, this week focusing on the resources that are made from trees and their produce.

 

In Science this week, the children used their knowledge of rocks and soils to answer a series of quiz questions and crack the code to escape the cave.

Week 5

 

 

Well done Class 3 for yet another fantastic week!

 

In Guided Reading this week, we have finished reading The Great Kapok Tree. We have used our summary skills to give a brief description of what happened in the story and share what we have remembered.

 

In Literacy this week, our book focus has been The Street Beneath My Feet. We have developed, planned and written a formal letter to Boris Johnson, sharing our concerns of a current environmental concern. We hope to receive a letter back from Mr Johnson next week!

 

 In Maths, we have focussed on fractions and decimals this week. We have developed our understanding of tenths and hundredths, converting fractions into decimals and ordered our findings on a number line.

 

In Geography, we continued to explore Europe. This week, we have created a colourful poster sharing key information about a European country, including digital graphs and maps.

 

In PE this week, we have continued with our orienteering module. The children have used maps and symbols to find varying locations plotted around the playground and completed obstacle courses.

Week 4

 

 

Well done Class 3 for trying your very best during assessment week this week.

 

In Guided Reading this week, we have continued to read The Great Kapok Tree. We have developed our comprehension and retrieval skills, responding to a sequence of questions about the text.

 

In Literacy this week, our focus book has been The Street Beneath My Feet. We have explored our understanding of formal letters and analysed key features to apply to our writing within the following weeks.

 

 In Maths, our focus has been fractions. We have solved addition and subtraction problems, as well as finding fractions of an amount.

 

In Geography, we continued to explore our topic of Europe. This week, we have explored Ordinance Survey symbols further and quizzed our peers on symbols and their meaning, practicing our recall skills.

 

In Science this week, we have explored the properties of soil and completed a soil senses exercise, researching what we can see, hear and feel.

Week 3

 

 

Well done Class 3 for a fantastic first week back at school, you should be very proud of all your hard work!

 

In Guided Reading this week, we have continued to read The Great Kapok Tree. We have developed our retrieval and sequencing skills, searching for key information within a text.

 

In Literacy this week, our focus book has been The Street Beneath My Feet. We have recapped prior home learning, introducing important characters, expanded noun phrases and similes.

 

 In Maths, Class 3 have been looking at all areas of prior learning this week, covering place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and lastly fractions.

 

In Geography, we continued with our topic focus of Europe. This week, we have explored Ordinance Survey symbols, familiarised ourselves with the information of an Atlas and searched Google Earth for 3D images of famous European landmarks.

Week 2

 

Well done Class 3 for your hard work this week!

 

In Guided Reading this week, we have continued reading The Great Kapok Tree. We have developed our understanding of new vocabulary and completed thesaurus work to upscale sentences.

 

In Literacy this week, our focus book has been The Day the Crayons Quit for World Book Week. The children completed a storyboard retelling the story with their very own twists and completed a persuasive letter to the crayons from Duncan, persuading the crayons to return home.

 

 In Maths, Class 3 have been looking at addition and subtraction with amounts of money. The children’s understanding and confidence has definitely grown within this area. Well done!

 

In Science this week, we have continued with our Rocks and Soils module. This week, we created our very own compost bins by following step by step instructions.

 

In Geography, we continued with our topic focus of Europe. Our learning objective this week was to observe, record and explain the physical and human geographical features of a European country. We created our very own news broadcast recordings, sharing the physical and human features of a specific European country.

Week 1

In Guided Reading this week, we have looked at our new book The Great Kapok Tree. We have made a prediction about the book and retrieved key information from the text.

 

In Literacy the children have used our class book The Street Beneath My Feet to identify new vocabulary, develop our understanding of expanded noun phrases and explore the use of similes.

 

 In Maths, Class 3 have been looking at place value. I have been very impressed by your use of prior learning to support this week’s tasks!

 

In Science this week, we have continued with our Rocks and Soils module. This week, we recapped our knowledge of rocks and created our very own chocolate rock cycle.

 

In PSHE this week, we thought about the value of trees. We discussed the importance of trees as they produce oxygen. To investigate how much oxygen a leaf produces, we completed an experiment to find out!

 

In Geography, we explored our topic focus of Europe. We used BBC Weather to identify weather similarities and differences across varying countries in Europe, questioning how and why the weather changes so much across each country.

 

Well done Class 3, keep up the hard work!
