Week 8
We have had a very busy week this week. On Monday we went on an Autumn walk and collected some Autumn leaves for our outdoor provision. We looked for signs of Autumn and listened to the sounds we could hear around us. Then on Wednesday this week we had a camp fire with Mr Bamforth. We learnt about fire safety and how to be safe around a fire. We then toasted a marshmallow and Miss Olive squashed it between two biscuits for us to eat. They were yummy!
Week 7
This week we have taken a break from our topic to learn about Autumn. We have experimented with mixing dark and light colours using white and black paint. We have created Autumn tree paintings.
In maths we had been learning how to add simple sums together in preparation for our Big Maths challenges! We have been using lots of different manipulatives to help us work out our answers.
In our literacy lessons, we have learnt the story 'We're going on a Bear Hunt!' through Talk for Writing. We have learnt how to perform the story and some of us have been creating our own story maps that have been pinned up around our classroom.
Week 6
This week we have had our Class 1 assembly. We put on a fantastic performance! We sang 5 little ducks, retold the story of the Little Red Hen and sang our first hymn 'If I were a butterfly'. We are so proud of Class 1! Well done everyone!
We have also continued to work on our number recognition and number lines 0 - 10. We have learnt the story 'Dear Zoo' as part of our topic work.
Week 5
This week Class 1 have been learning their numbers 0 - 10. We have played number bingo and number fishing! We are starting to get to know numicon shapes and recognise numbers 0 - 10.
In topic this week we have been drawing animal pictures. We have looked at different animal artwork and had a go at creating our own! We really enjoyed using the watercolour colouring pencils.
Week 4
This week we have started our teaching focuses. In Maths we have been learning about shapes and repeating patterns. We have played shape bingo, created shape repeating patterns, played shape dominoes and completed some colour by shape activity sheets.
In our literacy lessons we have learnt the story of The Little Red Hen through Talk for Writing. We have learnt the actions and we are starting to use our class story map to help us re-tell the story.
During collective worship this week we have continued our theme on friendships. Some of us chose to make a friendship bracelet for a friend.
Week 3
This week we have continued to get to know each other. Foundation children have started having their phase 1 phonics lessons and children who are ready for set 1 phonics have also started their lessons. In provision we have continued to explore patterns. We have also had our first collective worship session. In collective worship we talked about friendships and what our friends do for us. Our mission has been to be kind to our friends.
Week 2
This week was our first full week at school. We have been getting used to our routines and exploring our provision. We have been learning about repeating patterns and applying this in our play and paintings. We have been getting to know our new friends and enjoying playing together. We have been learning to sing some new songs and learning some new dance moves through GoNoodle!
Week 1
This week we have welcomed lots of new children to Class 1 as well as welcoming back our children who have stayed with us as year 1s. It has been wonderful to get to know our new children and listen to what they have been up to in the holidays. We have been learning our class rules, routines and getting to know each other. We have been exploring provision and getting to know our school.
