Autumn Term 2

Week 7

WOW! What a magical day!!!! We were lucky enough to get a virtual zoom call from Santa himself all the way from the North Pole! We were so excited to see him and couldn't believe he knew so much about each and everyone of us. His personal message to us was amazing and his letters he had sent us were just beautiful! A massive thank you to Santa and his helpers for taking the time out of his very busy day to speak to us for the afternoon and for the wonderful letter and gift. We all promise to stay on the nice list!

Santa Dash for The Rotherham Hospice

We wrote letters to Santa....and he replied!!

The Christmas carol 'O Christmas Tree' was the inspiration for our Christmas cards this year.

Taking time to be mindful.

Kisses and Wishes for next year on our 2021 calendars!

Class 2 share The Nativity Story.

A delicious hot chocolate and festive movie treat with our friends before we finish for christmas as our treat for being superstars this term!

We had a special Christmas advent mass via zoom with Father Declan, followed by a special Christmas dinner cooked by Mrs Green and her Elves and a wonderful Christmassy afternoon in our festive jumpers!

Today we had lots of fun painting snowy pictures and creating Christmas decorations to hang on the tree.

Week 6

This week the children have been watching a short film clip about Sprout Boy, a lonely sprout who wanted to spend christmas with friends. The children have designed their own christmas dinner characters and been describing them using adjectives and expanded noun phrases.

In maths the children were reintroduced to measuring using cubes and decimeter strips. The children used language such as longer, shorter, longest and shortest when describing the length and width of different objects.

Week 5

Laura's Star read by Mrs Thomas

Laura is often lonely but one night she sees a falling star and runs downstairs to find it lying damaged, on the pavement outside....

This week we listened to the story Laura's star, a lovely tale about a friendship and love. The children practised their cutting skills to order pictures from the story. They wrote captions underneath each one to help orally retell the story. They then used their writing skills to write the story.

Week 4

This week we have been reading Queen Victoria's Bathing machine, a true story about a very special gift from Prince Albert. The children enjoyed making predictions about what they thought a bathing machine was and practised answering written questions about the book. They made predictions about what would happen next and orally retold the story to their partners. They got in role and wrote a letter to Prince Albert thanking him for his amazing gift.

Little Birds is a lovely game that we sometimes use to practise spelling tricky words:

Week 3

This week has been National Anti-Bullying Week. The children have been thinking about what bullying is and what bullying isn't. We have focused our attention to being kind and have designed kindness calendars. We thought of ways we can be kind to others and ourselves. In class we have a 30 day kindness calendar which we will aim to achieve each day. We have also been thinking about our emotions and how we can calm down. Yoga Bugs have excellent video resources to help us at home and school.

Week 1

Welcome back Wise Owls. It has been lovely to have you all back with smiling faces this week. We have been recapping expectations and rules in the classroom. We have had some children showing excellent listening skills and being independent with their tasks. Keep this up children!

Just a polite reminder about homework. It is an expectation that children learn their spellings each week which will be tested every Friday. Children must also read 3 times a week and this should be recorded in the reading diary. Homework will continue to alternate each week. One week there will be a written task in books, the next week their will be a purple mash task. Please can you take the time to explore purple mash with your child as in the event of isolation or a bubble closure this is what we will use. Click on the icons and navigate around the website. What does each button do? Can you return to the main menu? There are hundreds of fun activities and applications your child can go on. Have you had a look at them? Feel free to go on these any time not just for homework. Tasks can be saved in your child's folder to show us in school.  The reminder below has been sent home for your information.
