Information for Parents and Carers
Welcome! This page is for parents and carers of children joining us in Class 1. Although most of the information is aimed at children joining us in Foundation Stage, if your child is joining us as a Year 1, you will also find the information useful.
Class 1 Overview
Class 1 is a mixed year group of 20 foundation stage children and up to 10 year 1 children. Foundation Stage children (also known as FS2 children) are taught the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (EYFS) and Year 1 children access the Year 1 National Curriculum. FS2 children are then assessed through teacher assessments (no testing is done!) on the Early Learning Goals. These assessments are then given to you in the form of their end of year report.
Staff in Class 1
Miss Olive - Class 1 Teacher
Mrs Cowling - Class 1 Teaching assistant
Mrs McKenzie - Class 1 Teaching assistant (mornings)
Your children will also get to know other members of staff who come into Class 1 from time to time:
Miss Wilkins
Mrs Weston
Mrs Warris
In Class 1 we aim for a balance between direct teaching and child-led play. What we do in direct teaching time aims to support child's interests and develop their skills. Many of our direct teaching sessions are based on performance, singing, games and circle time discussions. We use our outdoor space during these session weekly, so please make sure your child brings appropriate clothing for outdoor learning.
Below are PDF documents with more information on what we do in Class 1.
