Overview of Study 2019/20

 

During the year children will be introduced to the musical concepts of pulse, rhythm and pitch. They will consolidate their understanding of pulse and learn to play, speak and clap more complex rhythms. We will compose and perform our own rhythms and a ‘rap’ which links into a current curriculum topic.

Children will learn solfa hand signs and will be able to sing and ‘sign’ their names with a good level of confidence. We will learn to hand sign simple songs with a good level of accuracy.

We will listen to extracts of different genres of music and learn about the instrument families in an orchestra.

We will learn to play simple tunes on the treble recorder, how to listen to each other and how to play together as a ‘band’. This will lead up to a live performance of playing and singing at the Key Stage 2 Music Festival at The Metrodome in June 2020.

Class continued with their pulse work, applying it to using a recorder to keep in time.

Week 4: Class 3 developed their knowledge of pulse by keeping in time with a rhythm both verbally and with their recorders.

Class 3 learnt about pitch and pulse and were tasked to keep in time with these using the song Cobbler Cobbler.

Recorders have started! Hooray! This week Class 3 learnt how to keep a pulse to a song using hand rhythms. After, they learnt how to put a recorder together and play their first note.
