Week 7 - 16th December
This week has been a very busy week in Nursery as we prepared for our final Christmas celebrations.
We have been enjoying creating special memory pieces for our Christmas Eve boxes, that we are selling at the end of the week. All the money we raise will be used to buy more baking and play dough ingredients. It will help towards the cost of toast throughout next term.
On Thursday we performed our Nativity concert for all our parents. We were very nervous being on the stage. We all did brilliantly, saying our lines nice and clear and joining in with all the songs. We hope all our parents had a wonderful time. Mrs Blakemore and Mrs Pratt are so proud of Nursery. We were so good at performing that we even put on another show for the rest of school.
In our final advent liturgy we learnt all about the third candle in our advent wreath. We lit the rose candle that symbolises joy, a time of being thankful for all that has been given. During the liturgy we each added a flame to our advent wreath.
As it is our last week in school, we have taken a flame home to light on Sunday with our families.
Week 6 - 9th December
Our core story this week was one from our favourite author, Julia Donaldson. The story was "The Gruffalo". We loved the anticipation of events in the story as the Mouse takes a stroll through the deep, dark wood. We used the puppets in the reading area to retell the story.
In our RE lesson this week, we reflected upon the very first Christmas. Jesus was a very special gift from God. We know the true meaning of Christmas and why we continue to share gifts with our loved ones.
We added different key characters to our nativity scene and reflected on how they would have felt visiting Jesus in Bethlehem, laying a manger.
One of our key focuses in Nursery this half term is fine motor development. We have a new Elf Workshop in Nursery where we have been helping to prepare for Christmas by wrapping gifts. We have used scissors to cut the paper and celotape. We have also developed our team work skills, helping each other, every step of the way.
On Thursday we were all so happy to share some time in school with our parents, for a special Christmas themed session.
We had lots of fun continuing to develop our fine motor skills through printing our own sheet of wrapping paper. We threaded beads to create a Christmas wreath and used the scissors to create a nativity scene. We used our pencil control skills to create a colourful decoration. Thank you to all the parents who came along for the session.
Week 5 - 2nd December
This week we have been preparing for lots of special advent events. We have learnt about the origins of the Christingle and made our own Christingle. We now know that the orange represents the world, the red ribbon symbolises the love and blood of Christ. The dried fruit represent all of God’s creations and when we light this candle we remember that Jesus is the light of the world, bringing hope to people living in darkness.
One of our focus’ in Nursery this term is to develop our fine motor skills. We have been practising our cutting skills this week by creating an advent wreath. They look wonderful. As we celebrate advent we will continue to add the flame to the candles.
Continuing to develop our fine motor skills we have been very busy creating a special sewing. We selected three colours that we carefully threaded through the material.
In our collective worship this week we reflected on how we can be inclusive. We thought about the times when we have felt alone and not involved in something and then how we feel when we are welcomed to join others. We all agreed that we much prefer to be included in things and being welcomed to join others in their play. Our mission this week will be to try and think of others and how we can include others in what we do.
Week 4 - 25th November
This week in RE we have been thinking about the preparation of Jesus' birthday. We discussed how we prepare to celebrate our birthday and even planned a birthday celebration for Patch, our class bear.
We planned a party for Patch. We decided which party games to play and what party food we would like to eat. On Friday, we had a wonderful time celebrating.
Week 3 - 18th November
This week we have learnt all about how to stay safe on the road. We watched lots of video's from the government website teaching us about the importance of Road Safety. We then created our own videos with some important messages.
On Tuesday we had lots of fun playing in the snow. We made snowballs and snowmen. We held the snow and our warm hands made it melt.
Our story this week was Stick Man. Julia Donaldson is one of our favourite authors. We collected a range of sticks and made our own stickmen. We think they look great!
Week 2 - 11th November
This week we started to reflect on the Remembrance Day service. We showed our respect by wearing and making poppies to remember the brave soldiers. We used handprints to create a poppy growing in the field. We created remembrance crosses for church.
This week is Anti-bullying week. On Tuesday we wore odd socks as a way of coming together and celebrating our differences. We learnt that although we are all different, we are equally as important. Our differences should be celebrated. We talked about the things that make us different and shared the things we like about each other. Afterwards, we decorated our odd socks to display in class as a reminder.
In RE this week we have been learning about other religions. We learnt about Judaism. Like Christianity, Judaism teaches there is only one God and that God created the world. A Jewish leader is called a Rabbi. The sacred book of Judaism is known as the Torah. We know the Jewish house of worship is called a synagogue. We learnt about the special celebration of Hanukkah and then we created a menorah using different materials.
Week 1 - 4th November 2024
In Nursery this week we have been talking about how to stay safe near bonfires and fireworks. Lots of the Nursery superheroes talked about the fireworks that they have seen with their friends and family. We made our own firework pictures that sparkled in the light!
We have been using Letterjoin to practice our fine motor skills. We have enjoyed using the whiteboard to trace over the patterns and we concentrated really well. We then had a go at tracing some patterns on paper.
In our class collective worship this week we have been thinking about Remembrance Day and the people who have died in the wars. We talked about how important our friends and family are and how we help take care of each other.
On Friday we made our own firework lollies. The block of chocolate was hard. We had to melt the chocolate really slowly and carefully so that we could use it to make lollies. We put sprinkles on the lolly to make it look like it was sparkling. They were delicious!
