This half term has been full of exciting learning, creativity, and festive celebrations. Here’s a look at what Class 4 has been up to during Autumn Term 2.
In Literacy, we began our work on character descriptions, exploring what makes a strong and interesting description and practising different sentence types.
In Maths, we started our multiplication and division learning, revisiting key facts and building confidence with times tables.
In Science, we launched our topic on States of Matter, learning about solids, liquids, and gases.
In Geography, we explored what maps are and why they are useful.
In PE, pupils enjoyed Dance and Dodgeball sessions.
This week in Literacy, children developed their descriptive writing further by adding more detail using conjunctions, commas, and relative clauses.
In Maths, pupils continued practising times tables and problem-solving.
In Science, we compared and grouped solids, liquids, and gases.
In Geography, we learned how to use map symbols and keys.
Dance and Dodgeball lessons continued in PE.
In Literacy, children planned and drafted their own character descriptions, improving vocabulary and editing their work carefully.
In Maths, pupils explored factors and factor pairs and began multiplying by 10.
In Science, we learned about changes of state and what happens when materials are heated or cooled.
In Geography, pupils used two-figure coordinates to locate places on a map.
We also enjoyed welcoming families into school for Parents’ Afternoon, giving children the chance to share their learning and celebrate their progress together.
In Literacy, pupils completed and shared their final character descriptions and took part in reading and grammar activities.
In Maths, children completed assessments and explored cube numbers.
In Science, pupils completed assessment tasks linked to our States of Matter topic.
In Geography, we learned how to use four-figure grid references and compass directions.
As part of our RE learning, Father Declan visited school to bless the Advent wreaths, helping us to reflect on the meaning of the season.
This week, we began our new Literacy unit on instruction writing, identifying the key features of clear instructions using a model text.
In Maths, pupils practised multiplying by 10 and 100.
In Science, we carried out an investigation into melting, exploring how temperature affects the speed of change.

In Geography, we learned about Viking settlement choices and compared Viking land use with modern times.
We also enjoyed the festive atmosphere of the Christmas Fayre, celebrating together as a school community.

In Maths, children enjoyed festive maths activities alongside continued practice of key skills.
