Spring 1

Week 6: Week beginning 10th February 2025

In maths we have started learning how to multiply two numbers together.

In history we've learnt about how many children had to work in the mines in Victorian times, and how there was a serious pit accident near Barnsley which played a part in helping the law to change to protect children.

Week 5: Week beginning 3rd February 2025

In history this week we have been learning about what it was like to go to school in Victorian times. We have learnt about what teachers were like and what subjects were taught.

We've been exploring what changes were made in Queen Victoria's time to ensure more people went to school.

Week 4: Week beginning 27th January 2025

This week we had a visit from the library staff from Barnsley libraries.

We had a lovely time learning about all the different sorts of books in the library and other activities that you can do there. The children were amazed that it is free to belong to the library but you just need to apply for a library card.

We then enjoyed some lovely stories being read.

Week 3: Week beginning 20th January 2025

Lots more great learning this week in Class 2! We have been learning to add 2 digit numbers and represent it pictorially. We've finished our Jack and the Beanstalk stories and continued to write a simple biography of Queen Victoria.

In RE we have been learning about Jesus as a boy and have looked at the sort of house he probably lived in, and we have continued to learn a great song which teaches us so much about the Victorians.

Week 2: Week beginning 13th January 2025

This week we have carried on with our work on Traditional tales. We have been developing story language and thinking about different word classes.

We have started writing our own version of Jack and the Beanstalk.

In the fluency reading group we have been working on a version of "The Little Red Hen."

Week 1: Week beginning 6th January 2025

It has been lovely to welcome the children back after our Christmas holidays.

We have begun our new history topic on Queen Victoria and started a new topic on addition and subtraction in maths.

Our reading fluency group have been working on a text called The Legend of Nian and in writing we are learning about Traditional Tales.
