St. Valentine's Day Parent's Session - Our parents and carers joined us this week for a special session to celebrate St. Valentine's Day. We loved playing a maths game, writing Valentine's messages and doing lots of craft activities. We especially enjoyed making a little heart gift box which Mrs Tordoff filled with some special treats for us - because we are such a lovely class!
Seasons - We really love the seasons area in our classroom. We have an iPad that we use to check the weather and the temperature outside, and we make a note of the signs that we have seen of the current season.
Capacity - We have been investigating the capacity of a wide range of containers this week. We wanted to find the container that holds the most for Daddy Bear and the least for Baby Bear. Surprisingly, it wasn't just the containers that looked the biggest and the smallest - it was a good job we checked! We need to continue working on our pouring skills though, which we will have lots of opportunities to do in our sand and water areas.
Week 5
Literacy - We have really enjoyed listening to alternative versions of the traditional tale of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. Our favourite was definitely the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs'! This inspired us to create our own versions of the story and we worked in groups to alter our original story map.
Science - We have been learning about the parts of a plant and have really enjoyed examining each part very closely, using our new magnifying pots.
Week 4
Library Visit - We had a special visitor this week, Marianne from Barnsley Library Service came to visit us. Marianne shared some of her favourite stories with us and told us all about the reopening of Darfield library which has been refurbished. Joining the library is free and there are also lots of clubs and activities that take place at the library every week.
Year 1 Maths - We have been learning about 3D shapes this week. We went on a shape hunt to find objects that are cubes, cuboids, cylinders, pyramids and spheres.
Week 3
Jubilee Year - This week, we had an assembly to launch the Jubilee Year. In the Catholic Church, a Jubilee or Holy Year is a special year of forgiveness and reconciliation, in which people are invited to come back into right relationship with God, with one another, and with all of creation. Pope Francis has given the 2025 Jubilee Year the theme of 'Pilgrims of Hope'.
Science - This week we started our 'Cress Investigation'. We have sown cress seeds and we will keep them in various conditions to find out exactly what seeds need in order to grow.
Week 2
Literacy - We have been learning to tell the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We created a story map and added actions to some of the words to help us tell the story with lots of interesting details. It is very important that we listen to lots of stories - and retelling stories will really help us learn how to write our own stories.
FS2 Maths - We have been learning about shapes with 4 sides. We went on a shape hunt to find objects that have shapes with 4 sides.
Week 1
Geography - Building Cities. The children are enjoying selecting a wide range of construction and small world items to build and represent the features of a city. They really enjoy naming their cities which are becoming very grand indeed!
Computing - Alongside our computing curriculum, the children use a range of equipment and have access to a variety of educational software and apps. 'Sketchpad' and 'Hairy Letters' are firm favourites at the moment!
One family, growing together in love and faith, flourishing in a diverse and ever-changing world. We love, we believe, we shine, we achieve.
