Summer 1

Week 4

 

This week, children have studied a calligram about the weather. Poetry is our current focus within Literacy. Class 4 have explored VIPERS skills throughout the week, developing further understanding of the text. We discussed referring to the author as the speaker when exploring poetry.

 

In Literacy, children have explored varying representations of calligrams (writing can be presented around a shape or within a shape). Children discussed their topic of interests, whether this be a TV show, game or sport to explore how we can create our very own poetry.

 

In Maths, children have worked hard to explore tenths, hundredths and thousandths. Children have worked hard to explain their understanding of place value.

 

In Science, children have planned an investigation about whether or not varying rocks are or are not permeable. This will be investigated further after half term.

 

In History, children wrote a recount (diary entry) from the perspective of a child during World War 2. Children considered rationing and evacuation.

Week 3

 

This week, children have studied a discussion text about Robin Hood. Discussion texts are our current focus within Literacy. Class 4 have explored VIPERS skills throughout the week, developing further understanding of the text.

 

In Literacy, children have started to write their own discussion text, posing the question ‘Should children be allowed sugary treats?’. Children have worked hard to include emotive language, commas and semi colons.

 

In Maths, children have worked hard to explore tenths and hundredths, along with decimals to 2 places. Class 4 have also used greater than, less than and equals to symbols to compare and order varying values.

 

In Science, children have looked at varying rock formations such as igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. Class 4 have also looked at fossil formation and rock properties.

 

In Spanish this week, children have studied variations of the word ‘tener’ meaning have.

Week 2

 

This week, children have studied a discussion text. Discussion texts are our current focus within Literacy. Class 4 have explored VIPERS skills throughout the week, developing further understanding of the text.

 

In Literacy, children have explored the use of semi colons and how to apply this knowledge within our current writing task. Children have also started to plan their very own discussion text linking to Vikings (linking to history), Peru (linking to geography) or the environment (linking to science).

 

In Maths, children have worked very hard to multiply a fraction by an integer (whole number). Children have also started to explore finding a fraction of an amount and decimals. Decimals will be our focus next week also.

 

In History, children have explored significant events that happened during World War 2. Children created a timeline of events in chronological order. Next week, Class 4 are going to research significant people during this time.

 

In Spanish this week, children have looked at Spanish vocabulary for family or familia. Children have rehearsed using the word ‘tengo’ meaning I have, along with sharing which adults and siblings they live with.

Week 1

 

This week, children have studied a discussion text. Class 4 have explored VIPERS skills throughout the week, developing further understanding of the text.

 

In Literacy, children have explored the key features of a discussion text, along with modal verbs, relative clauses and active / passive voice.

 

In Maths, children have continued to explore fractions. Children have worked hard to add and subtract fractions from integers (whole numbers).

 

In History, children have completed a pre-assessment on our new WW2 topic.

 

In RHE, children have explored the Holy Trinity within a loving community.

 

In PE, children have learnt key skills within our new unit of Tennis. Children have looked at ball control and the correct positioning of the racket to support aim and accuracy.
