Summer Term 1
Week 1
Welcome back! This term we are focusing on consolidating our knowledge gained from the Autumn and Spring terms, whilst introducing some new aspects.
In Literacy, we are beginning to look at balanced arguments and have identified features and writing styles of these texts.
In Maths, we are revisiting decimals with a focus on money.
Our wider curriculum topic this term will be a History focus - WW2. In this topic we will look at invasion and conflict and use historical thinking to analyse certain aspects of that time period.
In Music, we are looking at pop music, using the ABBA song - Mama Mia as our inspiration.
In P.E., we are moving on to rounders and tennis.
Remember to check our photos page to see how we've been getting on!
Week 2
This week in Literacy we have been working on our sentence structure. Identifying the features of a simple and complex sentence and creating our own examples.
In Maths, we are continuing our work with decimals, focusing on decimal numbers with different decimal place values.
In Science this week we have looked at various types of rocks and have worked to use scientific vocabulary to identify and group them.
Week 3
With the warm weather this week we have taken the opportunity to take our learning outside.
In R.E., we have explored the story of St Paul and our topic of 'New Life' with some fantastic freeze frames.
In History, we have looked at how the Treaty of Versailles impacted post war Germany and the events leading up to WW2.
Our Literacy topic has culminated in some incredible pieces discussing whether London or Peru is a better place to live.
Week 4
In our last week of Summer 1, we have drafted and subsequently created and performed free verse poetry, taking inspiration from Pope Leo XIV's speech. The student performed their poetry in our Class 4 poetry showcase!
In Maths, we have investigated line graphs and have created our own using data tables.
In Science, we completed two experiments on various rocks, investigating which rocks would be more suitable for different purposes by recording durability, waterproof capabilities, and whether they were hard wearing or not.
In P.E., we completed our rounders topic by using our new skills in a Year 4 vs Year 5 game.
