Autumn 2

Week 6

This week, children have explored a non-chronological report about Maya civilisation. This has linked well to our prior knowledge within history.

In English, children have continued to explore the Guardian’s Bestiary. Children have created their own mythical creature to write about this week. We are working hard to include colons, brackets and relative clauses.

In Maths, children have explored order of operation, symmetry and powers (prime numbers, along with square and cube).

Well done Class 5!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Week 5

This week, children have explored a non-chronological report about life cycles. This has linked well to our prior knowledge within science.

In English, children have started to explore the Guardian’s Bestiary. This will further our knowledge and understanding of mythical creatures when writing our next non-chronological report. Children will consider appearance, habitats, characteristics and even powers or talents.

In Maths, children have explored fractions, order of operation and percentages this week.

In Spanish, children have studied days of the week and months of the year.

Class 5 have worked very hard during our Advent Liturgy rehearsals this week and are very much looking forward to sharing this with you on Friday.

Well done Class 5!

Week 4

This week, children have explored a non-chronological report about the physical features of the United Kingdom. This links well to our Geography knowledge and understanding.

In English, children have continued to write a non-chronological report about Sacred Heart.

In Maths, children have explored finding the percentage of a given number and order of operations.

In Geography, children have been working hard to recognise and label ordinance survey symbols.

Well done Class 5!

Jubilee Celebration Assembly

Class 5 joined the Jubilee for Schools Celebration Day assembly this morning. Children reflected on the impact of a Jubilee Year that’s been packed full of faith, learning and transformative action.

Week 2

This week, children have explored VIPERS skills of vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summary when studying a character description.

In Literacy this week, children have explored appropriate use of commas within varying sentence structures and parenthesis.

In Maths, children have worked hard when exploring fractions. Children have been adding, subtracting and comparing fractions, along with finding a common factor to solve problems.

In Science, children have explored the components of blood, such as red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma and platelets.

In Geography, children have studied the eight points of a compass and ordinance survey symbols.

Well done Class 5 for all of your hard work this week!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Week 1

This week, children have studied a character description relating to a previously taught area of learning (Vikings). Class 5 have explored VIPERS skills throughout the week, developing further understanding of the text.

In English, children have developed their understanding of sentence structures, conjunctions and commas.

In Maths, children have explored a new unit of fractions. Children have looked at finding a common multiple (or common factor). This allows children to find a common denominator between fractions to complete a comparison.

In Geography, children have used an atlas to identify countries within Europe and their capital cities.

Thank you to all those able to attend our Remembrance service this week and thank you to our wonderful readers for reading so proudly.

Well done Class 5!
