We are delighted to welcome you and your child to our EYFS class at St Michael’s and All Angels Catholic Primary School. This page aims to provide you with key information about our class, routines and how we work in partnership with families to support your child throughout the year.
Our EYFS class is taught through a job-share arrangement to ensure children benefit from experienced, consistent and high-quality teaching:
Mrs Miller – Class Teacher (Monday, Tuesday and every other Wednesday)
Mrs Levick – Class Teacher (Every other Wednesday, Thursday and Friday)
We work extremely closely as a team to provide continuity and consistency for the children. If one of us is unexpectedly absent, we always endeavour to cover for one another where possible, as we recognise how important familiar faces and routines are for our youngest learners.
We are also very lucky to be supported by our wonderful EYFS Teaching Assistants, Mrs Cowling and Miss Hughes, who are in class every day supporting the children in their learning, play and development.
You may also see Mrs Warris and Mrs Moore from time to time. They cover the class during teacher planning time or meetings within school and are familiar, trusted members of our school community.
To help your child feel settled and comfortable in school, please ensure:
All items of clothing are clearly named, so lost items can be returned
Your child brings a water bottle every day
Children wear appropriate clothing for the weather, as we play and learn outdoors regularly
If possible, please provide a pair of wellies to keep on your child’s peg, as we love to explore the outdoors in all weathers. This really helps keep little feet dry!
Please don’t worry if your child comes home a little messy from time to time — messy equals fun in EYFS! Messy play is an important part of learning and supports our Curiosity Approach, helping children to explore, investigate and develop their creativity.
Children should bring their book bags to school every day. We ask that children read at home at least three times a week, with a short comment written in their reading diary. This regular practice makes a huge difference to children’s confidence, fluency and enjoyment of reading.
Children earn extra Dojos for reading three or more times each week, and we love celebrating their efforts and achievements.
We teach Read Write Inc. (RWI), a fantastic phonics programme that supports early reading skills from the very first day. Your child may bring home QR codes, which link to RWI videos the children love. These provide valuable extra practice at home and help embed learning from class — your support with this is hugely appreciated.
Please check our Class Dojo page regularly. We update it most days with photos and information about the children’s learning, play and experiences — moments that are truly magical and priceless.
Each child has their own portfolio on Class Dojo, and we warmly encourage you to upload photos or share learning from home. These are often shared with your child and the class and help us to celebrate achievements, build confidence and create a strong family atmosphere within school.
We are incredibly grateful for your support and partnership. By working together, we can ensure your child feels happy, secure and inspired as they grow, learn and flourish during their EYFS year with us at St Michael’s and All Angels.
