In our Gospel assembly this week, the children explored and celebrated ‘JOY: We say Yes!’’
We explored how Lent is a time to prepare ourselves to remember Jesus’ death on the Cross on Good Friday and His Resurrection on Easter Sunday. We shared how we are invited to give, act and pray to help us to grow closer in our friendship with God. Throughout Lent, we're exploring different ways we can say, ‘Yes!’ to God. We looked at how the church community ‘rejoice’ and celebrate Laetare Sunday – the mid-point of Lent; Easter will soon be here!
The children listened to this week’s Gospel –
“Jesus spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then He anointed the man’s eyes… he went and washed and came back seeing.”
John 9:6-7
The children’s wonder question this week is: ‘I wonder why the blind man was joyful when Jesus healed his sight?
Our word of the week is ‘sacrifice.’
Ask your child if they can tell you the definition and action for our word of the week.
The children reflected on the gospel and thought about how the man born blind would have had a difficult life until Jesus changed everything for him. Jesus said ‘Yes’ to helping and healing the man born blind, even on the Sabbath when no ‘work’ was meant to be done. The man born blind was filled with joy not just because he was physically healed, but also because he received eyes of faith to know Jesus for himself! He could now say ‘Yes’ to Jesus by believing in Him. The man celebrated what Jesus had done for Him, but his neighbours and the religious leaders missed out on the joy by doubting and questioning what had happened. Laetare Sunday reminds us to celebrate the joy we have in following Jesus. This Lent, we can say 'Yes!' to the joy of faith that Jesus offers us by growing in our friendship with Him.
Our Mission for this week is – ‘How can you say ‘Yes!’ to the joy Jesus offers as we give, act and pray?’
We finished by saying a prayer together…
O God,
remind us that we can grow closer in friendship with
you through your Word.
Please help us to follow you with open hearts and eyes
of faith, as we look forward to the special celebrations of
Easter with joy.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen
In our Gospel assembly this week, the children explored and celebrated ‘LOVE: We say Yes!’’
We shared how Lent is a time to prepare ourselves to remember Jesus’ death on the Cross on Good Friday and His Resurrection on Easter Sunday. We are invited to give, act and pray to help us to grow closer in our friendship with God. Throughout Lent, we're exploring different ways we can say, ‘Yes!’ to God.
The children listened to this week’s Gospel –
“If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink’, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
John 4:10
The children’s wonder question this week is: ‘I wonder why did Jesus spend time with the Samaritan woman when others excluded her?’
The children reflected on the gospel and thought about why the Samaritan woman at the well was surprised when Jesus spoke to her. We prayed with actions and thought about how God’s love is for everyone.
Our Mission for this week is – ‘How can you say ‘Yes!’ to loving Jesus as we give, act and pray?’
We finished by saying a prayer together…
O God, you are the source of all mercy and all goodness.
Show us how to grow closer to you
through our giving, acting and praying,
and forgive us when we turn away from you.
Look graciously on us now,
so that we may always be lifted up by your mercy.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen
In our Gospel assembly this week, the children explored and celebrated ‘GLORY: We say Yes!’’
“And He was transfigured, and His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as light.”
Matthew 17:2
The children’s wonder question this week is: ‘I wonder why Jesus decided to show His glory to the disciples on the mountain?
The children reflected on the transfiguration and how it helped us to see who Jesus really is.
Our Mission for this week is – ‘How can you say ‘Yes!’ to glorifying Jesus for who He is and the amazing love He has for us, as we give, act and pray.?’
We finished by saying a prayer together…
O God, who have commanded us
to listen to your beloved Son,
be pleased, we pray,
to nourish us inwardly by your Word,
that, with spiritual sight made pure,
we may rejoice to behold your glory.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen
In our Gospel assembly this week, the children explored and celebrated ‘TRUST: We say Yes!’’
The children played a game of ‘Do you Trust me?’ They had to put their trust in each other.
We shared how last week, Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of Lent - a time to prepare ourselves to remember Jesus’ death on the Cross on Good Friday and His Resurrection on Easter Sunday. We are invited to give, act and pray to help us to grow closer in our friendship with God. In our Lenten assemblies, we’ll be exploring different ways we can say, ‘Yes!’ to God.
The children listened to this week’s Gospel –
“Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting for forty days and forty nights, He was hungry.”
Matthew 4:1-2
The children’s wonder question this week is: ‘I wonder if Jesus was ever tempted like we are?’
The children reflected on how we can put our trust in Jesus.
Our Mission for this week is – ‘How can you say ‘Yes!’ and trust in God as you give, act and pray?’
We finished by saying a prayer together…
Grant, almighty God,
through the yearly observances of holy Lent,
that we may grow in understanding
of the riches hidden in Christ
and by worthy conduct pursue their effects.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen
In our Gospel assembly this week, the children explored and celebrated ‘Salt of the Earth.’
The children thought about the different uses for salt and how it can be used in lots of different ways.
The children listened to this week’s Gospel –
“Jesus said to His disciples, “You are the salt of the Earth.”’
Matthew 5:13
Our word of the week from the gospel is
‘diversity.’
Ask your children to define ‘diversity’ and show you the action to help them remember the definition.
The children’s wonder question this week is: ‘I wonder why Jesus said His disciples were like salt and light?’
The children reflected on how the Holy Spirit can help us. They spent some time with Jesus and reflected upon how we can be ‘the salt of the Earth.’
Our Mission for this week is – ‘How can you be the salt of the Earth this week’
We finished by saying the Act of Love together…
O my God,
I love you above all things,
with my whole heart and soul,
because you are all good
and worthy of all my love.
I love my neighbour as myself
for the love of you.
I forgive all who have hurt me
and I ask pardon
of all those I have hurt.
In our Gospel assembly this week, the children explored and celebrated ‘Frassati – The Man of the Beatitudes.’
The children played a game of ‘blessed or happy.’ In the game they had to decide if the children in the pictures were blessed or happy.
The children listened to this week’s Gospel –
“Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in Heaven.”
Matthew 5:1-12a
Our word of the week from the gospel is:
‘Inspiration.’
Ask your children to define ‘Inspiration’ and show you the action to help them remember the definition.
The children’s wonder question this week is: ‘what motivated St Pier Giorgio Frassati to keep helping those in need?’
The children reflected on the Beatitudes and thought how happiness comes from growing a close relationship with God and living in the way he would want us to.
Our Mission for this week is – ‘How can you put others first, like St Pier Giorgio Frassati did, using your words and actions this week?’
We finished by saying a Litany of Pier Giorgio Frassati together…
St Pier Giorgio, pray for us.
Friend of the friendless, pray for us.
Helper of those in need, pray for us.
Comfort of the sick, pray for us.
Joyful in all of life’s circumstances, pray for us.
Man of the Beatitudes, pray for us.

In our Gospel assembly this week, the children explored and celebrated ‘True Identity.’
The children thought about what the phrase ‘true identity’ means. They thought about how well we really know each other.
The children listened to this week’s Gospel –
“…I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”
John 1:34
Our word of the week from the gospel is:
‘Discipleship.’
Ask your children to define ‘Discipleship’ and show you the action to help them remember the definition.
The children’s wonder question this week is: ‘what do the titles ‘Son of God’ and ‘Lamb of God’ tell us about Jesus.
The children thought about how John the Baptist knew Jesus’ true identity and it changed everything. When he saw Jesus, he recognised that the Son of God was among them! The children spent some time with Jesus. They listened to music and thought about what they knew about Jesus. We thought about how John the Baptist was a witness to Jesus’ true identity and he shared this revelation with others — we too can be witnesses for Jesus in the world by sharing the Good News with others!
Our Mission for this week is – ‘How can I be a witness for Jesus through my words and actions?’
We finished by saying a prayer to the Holy Spirit:
Come, Holy Spirit.
Fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love
Send forth your Spirit, O Lord,
and they shall be created,
and you shall renew the face of the Earth.
Amen
In our Gospel assembly this week, the children explored and celebrated ‘Bold Statement.’
The children thought about what the phrase ‘bold statement’ means. They thought about how Jesus’ Baptism was a bold statement by God about his son. The children thought about how John might have felt when he heard God’s voice.
The children listened to this week’s Gospel –
“…and behold, a voice from Heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
Matthew 3:17
Our word of the week from the gospel is:
‘Baptism.’
Ask your children to define ‘Baptism’ and show you the action to help them remember the definition.
The children thought about how Jesus’ baptism was a clear and bold statement that each person of the Holy Trinity was present: God the Father’s voice is heard from Heaven; God the Son is Jesus; and God the Holy Spirit came down like a dove.
God the Father’s voice proclaimed that Jesus is His beloved Son, and as part of God’s family, we too can be called His beloved child. Jesus is God’s Son and He invites us to follow Him. Jesus invites us to make our words and actions speak for themselves. Each time we show kindness, share and show love to others, we are saying “yes” to Jesus’ invitation and making a bold statement for God.
Our Mission for this week is – ‘I am God’s beloved child.’ How can this bold statement influence your words and actions this week?
We finished by saying the Lord’s Prayer together:
Our Father,
who art in Heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen
WHOLE SCHOOL GOSPEL ASSEMBLY – 5th JANUARY 2026
In our Gospel assembly this week, the children explored and celebrated ‘A New Beginning.’
The children thought about some of the new things that happened during their time at home over Christmas and discussed some of the new things they tried.
The children we asked to think about if God the Father always planned to send Jesus to Earth, even at the very beginning.
The children listened to this week’s Gospel –
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us, and we have seen His glory.”
John 1:1-18
Our word of the week from the gospel is
‘Light.’
Ask your children to define ‘Light’ and show you the action to help them remember the definition.
The children thought about:
The children thought about how Jesus was present with God from the beginning. This means He was with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit during the Creation of the world. The children thought about how God has always been thinking of us. He knew us at the very beginning. He sent Jesus for us as part of His great plan. The children reflected on how, through Jesus’ arrival on Earth, death on the Cross and Resurrection, all people can receive a new beginning with God and grow their friendship with Him. They thought about how God had always promised to send Jesus to the Earth, to shine out His light and glory. Because this came true, we can remember that God always keeps His promises.
Our Mission for this week is – How can your actions help you to step into a new beginning this term?
We finished by saying the Glory Be prayer together:
Glory be to the Father
and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning
is now, and ever shall be
world without end.
Amen
