Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School

Summer 1

Week one - 28th April

This week we welcomed some new friends to Nursery.  We have spent lots of time settling in our new friends and helping them to adjust to the new routines of Nursery life.  We are all learning the important skills needed to get along, such as sharing and taking turns.  Please help us to develop these important life skills at home.

We have been very lucky with the weather this week so we have enjoyed spending more time outside.

Our topic this half term is “Let’s open a book”.  The EYFS aliteracy curriculum focussed on developing early reading skills, fostering a love of books and supporting language development.  To help us develop a love of books we will be sharing some of our favourite stories from well known children’s authors.  We started this week reading many of Mick Inkpen’s stories.  We talked about the events in the story and talked about the parts of the stories we enjoyed.  As we read more stories by Mick Inkpen we decided which text which liked the most.  These are all key skills you can help with at home.

In math this week we have enjoyed sharing some of our favourite counting songs with our new friends.  This is a fun way to develop a knowledge of numbers and counting.  This week we focused on learning 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, once I caught a fish alive….

One family, growing together in love and faith, flourishing in a diverse and ever-changing world. We love, we believe, we shine, we achieve.
